Have you ever considered how volunteering and fundraising can help your career? Are you an organisation involved in regular volunteering and fundraising activities with your employees?
Many organisations encourage their employees to get involved with community activities because at the heart of everything we do, being part of a community – a tribe – is good for us as human beings. And because of that good feeling, it has a positive effect on our wellbeing that starts a ripple effect on those around us.
The benefits of offering your time and fundraising efforts to others
There are many benefits – here are just a few of them:
– It helps you gain confidence and connections. It allows you to try something new and build a sense of achievement.
– It means you’re doing something for others, giving back and being part of a community. All these things are about wholeness and positivity.
– It gives you the power to change lives.
– You’ll meet new people and make new friends.
– You’ll learn new skills.
– Often, these initiatives involve stepping out of your comfort zone, which can be an intensely rewarding experience.
– It’ll enhance your career and help you to manage it in a much more meaningful way.
– You’ll have fun!
What does your employer do for employees who want to volunteer and fundraise?
What can an employer do for prospective employees looking for those opportunities?
By actively encouraging staff and prospective employees to volunteer or participate in fundraising activities, you can become part of the future development of their careers. This can only bring the most positive benefits to your organisation. For those seeking the right role, it makes your job application stand out from the crowd and shows that you have transferrable skills from your volunteer/fundraising role to your job role.
This can show prospective employers that you have a positive attitude and work ethic – or that you possess leadership skills that can be brought into an organisation from a different perspective.
Life skills are essential to our everyday wellbeing – mental and physical.
Come and get involved with our MD Lynne Rose’s fundraiser
Lynne gets involved in fundraising every couple of years by taking part in a trek to raise funds for Salisbury Hospital Stars Appeal in memory of her Dad, Adrian Vearncombe. The Salisbury Hospital Stars Appeal is very dear to her heart – for all the care they gave to him before he died in 2019.
With fellow trekker Colin Ford (part of team C.O.L.L.Y.N), Lynne participated in a 100km, six-day trek across the Jordanian desert to Petra, and they raised a whopping £101,310.56. What an incredible achievement! You can see how their journey went and the adventure they had here: https://www.facebook.com/LynneRosePetraTrek
And in 2019, Lynne trekked the Great Wall of China, which you can read about here: https://www.facebook.com/LynneRoseChinaTrek
In 2024, Lynne and Colin will be taking part in another two-week trek taking them through the tropical rainforest and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains in Colombia to the Lost City of Teyuna, again in support of Salisbury District Hospital’s Stars Appeal. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lynne-rose-salisbury-starsappeal
